You referring to that Super Recording? I'm not real surprised.

Re: That Recording sold for 1500!

Oh, I'm sorry guys I can't believe I didn't post the link. Here it is: Trumpet Olds Recording '62 ORIG. LACQUER. ROSE PIPE - eBay (item 330205336051 end time Jan-27-08 17:08:16 PST)

No, it wasn't the Super Recording, it was the Recording that had a rose pipe and had nickel and brass throughout the rest of the horn. It ended up going for 1775. I have 1500 in my title because I assumed that it was over with 2 min. left(I'm not an experienced ebayer), but it ended up at 1775.

Man, I remember playing an old, beaten-up Recording a student of mine had. Red-rotted, on its last legs (picture the Emperor from Star Wars), and could still play AMAZING.

The Mendez rocks, too. You don't see many of those on Ebay these days.

Nope, and when you do, they hit near 1k every time. If an Opera shows up, it'll usually stay low until the last 24 hours or so, and then it's a bloody free-for-all that I've seen go up to 1700+ for one (it was dang near mint, though).

They are great horns when you can find them, though. I play in a community band with a fellow who has an Opera in beautiful shape. Tried it once and was quite impressed, really. It's my personal opinion that they're not worth the huge prices they go to when you can often get some stunning modern horns (Schilke, Kanstul, etc.) used in those price ranges, but they're always nice to see.

There has been one in the Buy it now option for a year. It used to be 2000, but they keep lowering the price. No one has bought it yet though. OLDS OPERA TRUMPET, COMPLETELY RESTORED!!! - eBay (item 170157123767 end time Feb-05-08 07:30:43 PST)

Re: That Recording sold for 1500!

"Smokey dark tone" (????) ... (the lister's parlance).

I've had two Recordings ... a '68 nearly as clean as the listed horn, that I recently traded; ... and a '58 (I'm keeping).

I'm a "Committee-kinda-guy" (have several) ... so I know what "smokey dark" is.

Not how I would describe a Recording's sound (although; some other might achieve this sonority).
