Reynolds Argenta

Hi,

I've spoken with Tom Turner about this horn but wanted to get other opinions before I proceed. Considering buying a 1959 large bore (.462) Argenta. It's in good shape, nickel finish, great valves and plays very well. The price is a liitle high but ok. ($475)

Does anyone have any opinions on the horn? You can see a picture of it on the Contempora Corner. It's the 1959 Argenta shown. The photo makes it look a liitle better than it is. Blems aren't as obvious.

I've been looking for a large bore in this price range or less. Any better options I should look for instead?

Thanks

Solar Bell has a spectacular aura about
From what I know...Tom is VERY knowlegable about these things.

It's good to get advice from someone that KNOWS what he is saying.

I would trust what Tom tells me and not open it to the opinions of those who do NOT know.

FWIW,

I hope I didn't give the impression that I didn't trust Tom's opinion. Quite the contrary, Tom's a wealth of good information and has guided me in alot of things.

Tom had good feelings about the horn but thought the price was a bit high, but not rediculous. I guess I was curious to see if anyone, maybe some Reynolds freaks, may have other input.

Thanks again

Sol is an unknown quantity at this point
Argenta

Buy it. I have one, and use it in symphony orchestra when we play Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and that sort of stuff. When you start playing loud on it, it can get pretty bright, but that can be a good thing depending on what you want to do with it. Not a great horn for chamber music, I would say. I wouldn't think twice. I brought it to work one day along with 2 Bach Bb's, and the Argenta got the unanimous vote as the best sounding horn...it was something loud...go fo it, they really project well.

Thanks for your input.. I like it. I'm going to use it for playing lead in a big band. So you think the price is ok?
It's in good shape.
