Reynolds Argenta, am I asking too much?

Hi all, new to the forums, but not for long unfortunately. See, I stopped playing in college because, well, I ran out of time to play enough and got worse and worse until I basically called it quits. It's hard to play 3+hrs a day if you are not a music major, right?

Now I am selling my horns to fund my motorcycle racing habit and this little beauty is a bit special, even if it's not worth as much as the Bach Strad LW I have to sell. I know about Contempora Corner, so I'm basically here just to get some opinions from you personal folk.

Am I asking to much or too little? (Big pics in the link)
Reynolds ARGENTA Cornet >>>> COLLECTIBLE ANTIQUE

I hate to go through Ebay. I will try my best to never sell through them again!

Nice looking cornet, but lots of scratches. I looked on ebay completed listings and the closest they had was a Contempora Cornet that sold for $455. There was a Contempora cornet sold on Shopgoodwill recently for $2-300 I think. So you are probably in the ballpark, I think. Hope you get a sale out there on your terms.

Re: Reynolds Argenta, am I asking too much?

It is a nice little horn. I'm tempted to keep it over my Strad for when I get the urge to toot, however, that's been very far an few inbetween lately.

As far as some of the scratches, I'm amazed at the location of some. Dunno how it was done! I picked this up from a pawn shop back in....10th grade I think...as a bday present from my father. Getting my terms on the sale...I know it's not worth too much, but I would be happy if an enthusiast picked up the horn. I do not want to pawn it or yard sale it...

Re: Reynolds Argenta, am I asking too much?

That would certainly qualify as a " Pawn shop find". Nice dad, also and a much better cornet than many. My dad bought me a couple of nice horns many, many years ago. You might have to widen your field of advertising to find a knowledgeable buyer. Have you considered putting a classified on this forum and TrumpetHerald? Would'nt cost any fees and you would be working directly with any potential buyer. Also, I think you should consider the option of mailing it out to other parts of the US. Not too expensive for a cornet.

Re: Reynolds Argenta, am I asking too much?

I may post an ad on here eventually. I'm sure folks would be leary of a forum n00b trying to sell expensive products.

And the disclaimer to not ship on Craiglist is just an attempt to avoid messages from all the out-of-country scammers. If I sold on Ebay and the like, I surely would ship.

Hmmm, thinking about this makes me sad. For $300 one can buy this jazzin' little horn which will last a lifetime. I'm looking to take that $300 and buy a set of tires for my motorcycles which will last maybe 4 days on the race track (or less, if it's for an actual race instead of practice).

Re: Reynolds Argenta, am I asking too much?

I think $200-$300 is appropriate. As for the scratches... did you take the photos using a flash or in natural light? I have used plash occasionally and been amazed at how every defect is magnified. I am not suggesting hiding the scratches to deceive. However, you might try photographing the horn in more natural light. I usually take mine out on my deck in a partially shaded area. When I do that, I feel the photos more accurately show the horn the way it actually appears to me in my hands. With flash, it does the opposite.

I have owned the trumpet version of this horn and it was a very good instrument.
