![]() ![]() | Student grade trumpets? A good friend that I am scheduled to play a duet with on Sunday in his church just dropped by to practice our chosen numbers. I happened to be practicing with one of my Reynolds Medalist trumpets when he arrived. He came in and commented favorably on what I sounded like and then discovered what horn I was using. Of course, the quality, price, musicality, etc. were brought forward pertaining to his chosen instrument. I listened patiently and had him make a short term trade. After playing my ugly,[peeled lacquer, mostly], old "student grade" trumpet, he was puzzled. He wondered why he had spent almost $2000.00 for his Strad, when my old horn cost $29.00+ $16.00 shipping, and he likes mine better than his. I just could not get him to make a 'long term' trade. I intend to work on that. Heck, I have another Medalist if I trade off this one. OLDLOU>>

| Forte User | Re: Student grade trumpets? That's a prime Medalist Lou, as I found out playing it recently at our meeting. Better tone quality than the almost pristine one I used to have. That one I wouldn't mind playing in my bands, either. I am surprised you couldn't "Conn" him out of his Strad.

BTW, I have an old Selmer Bundy which is badly bent and it plays incredibly. I have better range on it than any other trumpet I have. It is a very easy, free blowing horn and I rescued it from the dustbin - and that doesn't count my 11 Olds horns, all of which were badly distressed in one way or another when I rescued them. They all play beautifully now.
