 | Re: Trumpets and Cornets- telling the difference. The original Saxhorn had pumpen valves like the ones on the horn below (aka Berliner pistons), which look like Perinet valves at first glance, except that the air goes straight through. They're also much shorter, and fatter. Berliner pistons are far superior to Perinet valves- dunno why Perinet valves won out.
