| Trying to figure out if what I've found IS a trumpet? I have just found, what I believe is a very, very, very old trumpet in my garage. It's about half the size of my B flat student model and it has no valves. It's made up of a leadpipe and a bell as well as a place to insert a mouth piece. The leadpipe is twisted into an oval shape twice before finally widening into the bell. It doesn't have anything engraved on it, no serial number or brand(?). And I'm quite sure it was played at one point, because I'm quite sure all that stuff didn't appear out of no where... *shudders* it was nitghmare to clean out, and it still isn't completely clean(it must have been at least a decade since someone even touched it at all)... I'll post a picture when I can, but it pretty much looks like a natural trumpet that someone condensed until it was half of the original size. So my question is, is there such a thing as a natural pocket trumpet or something of the sort? And is there a way to figure out if it isn't just some sort of novelty item someone made for a decoration? (I hope I posted this in the right forum) |

If copper, and the mouthpiece looks like some sort of decoration, it might be one of those fake english things made for tourists in India that used to be in vogue for hanging above fireplaces, etc. One test to see if it is really a bugle is to play it outside your neighbor's door about sunrise. If they wake up and get out of bed, it is a genuine bugle! |
