Unmarked 40's-50's cornet

I recently decided to finnaly pick up trumpet as it is my favorite sounding instrumet. Anyway, to the point, i found a "trumpet" on craigslist that looks more like a cornet to me, the poster says it has a serial but is unmarked other than that, says everything moves well and brass isn't worn.

It's down to this(if it is something of value) or a blessing student trumpet, both will cost me around $100. Any input at to what it is or which is a better value would be much obliged.

If I am correct, a lot of the older model cornets were called trumpets-not sure why. What is the ballpark price they're asking for?

http://www.trumpetmaster.com/vb/f140...orn-47321.html (Info Needed on Mystery Horn) Please read this recent thread. Half-baked mcbride looked at what looks to be the same horn and it turned out to be pretty bad. You might want to PM him.

Yep, that's it alright, I'm going to pass on it in that case. It's a long drive for me anyway. Looks like I'm going to have a blessing student horn in my possession soon.

They were asking $125 by the way.

Re: Unmarked 40's-50's cornet

Yea, I saw it today actually....small world. It was rather heinous. Red corrosion spots, couple of dents, played reeeeally stuffy.....sad part was it couldn't have been older then 10-15 years. Definately NOT vintage. The seller was nice, he's just not a brass guy.

Best of luck in your search. Nothing wrong with EBay if you do a little homework. I just got a nice Getzen for a shade under $200 bucks.
