Smile Victory Trumpet

I play a 1963 King Super 20 Silver Sonic Symphony and a King Liberty from the mid 40s.* I am looking at a Victory trumpet that I believe comes from the 30s or mid 20s.* Does anyone know anything about these horns?

Re: Victor Trumpet

I have a '63 Conn Victor 22B and find it to be a nice playing horn. Valves are excellent (smooth/responsive/quick) and with my Conn 3C mouthpiece I get a nice tone out of it. I'm not an authority on any of this but it's not a horn I would give up easily. I just played a '50s Conn Constellation and would be happy to trade for it. Keep in mind I prefer a warm/mellow sound for most of what I do with trumpet.............crow

Re: Victor Trumpet

You need to check out the Conn Loyalist at this address:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~cderksen/

As far as I can tell the Victor model name was used on the 22B, 34B (alto), 35B (Eb), 6B and 10B trumpets. The Victor name was used more for the cornets, those being the 2A (Eb), 4A, 5A, 6A, 8A, 9A, 10A, 38A, 80A, 81A, 82A and 90A cornets. While the Victor name does not appear on trumpets until the mid 1950s, it does show up in the early 1900s on the cornets.

I own the 5A Victor on this site, and *it* is a .485 bore short cornet with great valves and a great sound. I don't play it much because it is just a little too large in the bore for me.

You really need to check out this site for anything having to do with Conn horns. Look especially at the "What the ....... Looks like". You'll be able to find the correct model and all the info about the horn. Christine Derksen has got all you need to know!

Regards,

Bill
