![]() | Re: which vintage conn you prefer? I agree. Coming from the "mostly Olds" camp, the Constellations I have played are great, buttery valves, solid feel and beautiful tone. Total pro presentation, cases, fit and finish.

Oldlou has been far too busy playing his Conns to make an alteration to his signature list of instruments. OLDLOU>>

| Pianissimo User | Re: which vintage conn you prefer? Could I ask, what do the 8B Artist's play like? I found a great deal on one but am unsure of its future value, historical importance and such. I heard Hubbard and Woody played them for a good run; that true?

![]() | Re: which vintage conn you prefer? I've not got or played many instruments but I'm rather happy with a Conn Victor (80A). It's from about 67 and seems not to have been used much which helps.

![]() | Re: which vintage conn you prefer? Just got my hands on a recently overhauled 1930 Conn 80A Victor today and the beast is the best playing cornet I have ever had the privilege to play. The tone is simply gorgeous and full. Classic cornet sound... I also have a King Master Cornet, SN puts her around 1928 ballpark. The King is very nice, and in all fairness she needs a valve-job as she eats oil like a fat housewife on a bon-bon kick, but the Victor throws a beatdown on her, in all likelihood even after the valve work the King needs. My vote is definitely for the Victor 80A. |

![]() | Re: which vintage conn you prefer? Maynard played one of the first 38B Connstellations. I haven't figured out why Conn Directors with Coprion bells are soaring in price above the $400 dollar range...it's still a student horn (albeit a good one), only with a red brass bell, same bottom sprung valve body as my $18.00 flea market aquired 1965 Director. The Coprion bell is beautiful, but is it worth three to four times the value of the same horn with a yellow brass bell? Having a degree in economics, I am well aware that demand sets the price, but is it really that good? Someone please set me straight if I'm blowing smoke!!! BTW, my 1913 Conn cornet is a terrific horn to play, fast valves and a sweet tone, combined with beautiful engraving, satin silver plate with gold wash in the bell and in the engraving.
