I'm from Germany and I have some nice old horns in my collection:
There is a Schuster trumpet from the 1930s which unfortunately show serious spots of corrosion and thus I do not play it anymore (although it is by far my best horn for big-band and jazz).
Then I have a Holton New Proportion Cornet from about 1908 in fairly good condition. It only needs some cleaning and then it is a very fine horn.
Next I have a Tonk Sterling Trumpet model Bohemia, tunable in A, Bb-flat and C also in very good condition but unfortunately I do not know from when it is.
I also own a Conn Victor 8A from 1933, which is my favorite at the moment.
Then there is a Knoth Trumpet. It looks like a cornet, but you have to play it with a trumpet mouthpiece. Here I also do not know from when this horn dates.
And then there is a strange little cornet bearing the engraving "Wonder Super" but with no sign of the manufacturer. Anybody out there who knows something about it?

If you wish I could put in some pictures.

Greetings from Germany

Welcome to TM.

Pictures would be great!!
your "Tonk Sterling Trumpet model Bohemia, tunable in A, Bb-flat and C also" sounds like something I would want.

Re: VINTAGE HORN EYE CANDY

Some years ago my father wrote down his personal history for his children. In it he describes his family as being very musical with his older brother playing Organ, Piano and the Tuba, himself on flutes and piccolo and his sister the Peckhorn. I always wanted to know what a Peckhorn was - now I know. Thanks.

One thing that doesn't come through in the pictures, unless you compare them to the trumpet pictures, is the size. Basically, It looks like a shrunken baritone. The tone is similar to a trombone or baritone in a higher range. Some day I'll post a video.

Re: VINTAGE HORN EYE CANDY

Hi,

I tried to insert some images of my horns but unfortunately I do not really know how to do this. I do not have any webspace to put them on, so anyone who would like some images please let me know and where to send them.

I also have here a trumpet from the Netherlands. I always forget how the name of the firm is spelled: Scherkelaars? There was an engraving on the bell, but it has vanished. Seems to be a copy of the old Conn Connstellation model, but by far it does not reach the playing quality of the Conn.

Greetings from Germany

Re: VINTAGE HORN EYE CANDY

My 1957 Conn Director 14A may not be eye candy to everybody, but it is ear candy and it feels like some kind of weapon in my hands. Great balance! A weapon of peace and beauty! It reminds of the time I had an underage drink with Bobby Hackett.

He died a few months before my 18th birthday, so it was the only kind of drink I could have had with him.

I just got it and am planning on having it professionally fixed up.
