Vintage York trumpets and cornets

As a former employee of York Band Instrument Co. and then an employee of A.J.'Bill' Johnson who ran and owned York for most of his long life, before selling out to Carl Fischer, I am enthused about the history and excellence of the vintage York brass instruments. Because of the current overwhelming popularity of trumpets over cornets, the majority of Yorks high brass production has been to a great deal forgotten or ignored. In the history of York there have been many ultra fine cornets and trumpets with the cornets being in the greater number, but, some of the line, both short and long were among the finest ever made. I hope to hear from others on this forum who agree with my assessment.

Re: Vintage York trumpets and cornets

Hi Lou, I am not qualified to judge, other than by your undeniable expertise Not having one yet, anyway. I notice two York trumpets on ebay by seller timbrown527, one called a "Brilliant" and the other looking similar. Both have buy it now prices and fairly good commentary. Maybe you could look and advise if you are familiar with these an pm me if you think either is a good buy, etc. See you Thurs. Thanks!

This is very true, but, they, like their trumpet brothers are quite rare. There were few of them made and those that are still in existance are well loved and don't show up on the market very often. As can be seen in my signature I own a Master Model trumpet, which is the only example that I have seen in the last ten years. It is my prime trumpet out of many fine instruments in my 'accumilation'.

This looked to be a bargain, tune slides do get frozen but I think this one could have been worth a go?

The King Master cornet depicted surely was worth the $42.66 even though they called it a "trumpet", although too bad it wasn't taken care of with the consideration it deserved.
