![]() | What is the difference between 38B and 36B Conn? 1956 Conn Constellation 38B 1958 Conn Constellation 36B Quite a few of these are being sold. I assume Maynard played the 38B which is the more expensive model?

![]() | Re: What is the difference between 38B and 36B Conn? Lots of fascinating info on the Connstelation and its history at The Conn Loyalist (where you can hear clips of me clamming Because of the bigger bell and because the 38B was classic Maynard's horn, it always fetches more $ than the 36B. But 38Bs in reasonable shape can sometimes be had on eBay for well under $1000. Just keep it in your eBay saved searches. Sooner or later you'll get lucky if you're patient. ![]() | Re: What is the difference between 38B and 36B Conn? I bought a new Connstellation 38B in July 1956, played in a dance band, then two years in College Concert Band and Marching band. Played for a total of 7 years, put it away. later my youngest son played it for 5 years. From the serial number 563434, I think it was made in 1955 or early 1956. I have been reading about these and am considering sellling. Any Ideas on the best way to market this type of horn? From a current listing on E-bay (hotdeal1smoko) showing a 38B claiming "near mint condition". My 38B is equal to this one. Ideas?? Last edited by Bob Reeves; 07-06-2009 at 03:31 PM. |

![]() | Re: What is the difference between 38B and 36B Conn? Hi, Bob... With good supersize pictures and a detailed description, your first-year 38B will sell and fetch a handsome price. Show the valves so people can see how the plating has held up. Indicate if the valve stems are tight with no lateral movement. Mention if the slides "pop" when pulled out (good compression). Note and show a case photo if it has the orginal case. Another selling point is if it has the original Connstellation gold rim mouthpiece. The seller you mentioned always sells at ridiculously high prices and seldom moves his stock. Believe it or not, you can start your auction at just $1, as the 38B is a sure hot seller, even in poor condition. A $1 auction draws in many, many bidders--including ME--who in the end will battle it out to win your horn. Auction is the way to go--not-buy-it-now. And of course if the horn truly is mint, and the pics show this, you can expect upwards of $900 for it on eBay. Should you want to forego all that and make a quick sale, I'll PayPal you $300 for it right now; I've been wanting one for the longest time but haven't been able to afford the eBay going prices. Tell you what...sell it to me and I'll play it, solo, on a CD that's scheduled for release this winter. Seriously. Last edited by Fatso DiMARTINo; 07-06-2009 at 07:21 PM. |
