![]() | Yamaha 6445 On Monday I received a Yamaha 6445 C trumpet that I bought on eBay - Beautiful Yamaha YTR 6445 HS C Trumpet - eBay (item 200363454494 end time Jul-22-09 16:37:49 PDT) - and I think I did very well. The instrument looks like it was hardly used, very clean inside and out. Plays really well too. A couple of questions: is this instrument old enough to be considered vintage? This trumpet was supposedly in production from 1985-1990. I currently am playing a Bb rental which must be returned. I'm considering having Bb slides made for the C. Yes I understand the instrument will have limitations. My only intent would be to use the Bb slides for tricky sight reading, the rest of the time read down a step. Is this a practical thing to do? Approximately how much should I expect to spend? Right now I don't have the money to buy another Bb of similar quality to the Yamaha. I could continue the rental but it's only a Bach 300 and a little disappointing after playing the C. Thanks for any help, Jonathan |

![]() | Re: Yamaha 6445 Hi hup_d_dup, That is a very nice looking C trumpet you got. I agree you should buy an Ambassador or something similar. It will cost you less than converting your C to Bb. I don't think you will end up with a conversion to Bb to play as nice as it does in it's C form. Intonation will probably not be right. |

![]() ![]() | Re: Yamaha 6445 So YOU'RE the one that outbid me!! (Just kidding - it looks like you have a great deal on a very nice horn). As the others have said, an Olds Ambassador will make a very nice Bb addition to your lineup, spoken as one of many on this forum who have an arsenal of them (my latest count is 4 trumpets and 3 cornets) and they all play very well.
