Bruckner 4 on TSO Live

Hi everyone,
This week the Toronto Symphony released Bruckner 4th Symphony on the TSO Live label. I have listened to most of it and I think it's pretty good. It has however made me think about a topic that I need help with. The trumpet section used Ganter rotaries for this recording. I think that is past time for me to upgrade. For those of you who have played or do play rotaries on a regular basis what would you reccomend?
Best,
Andrew

ps. Here is the link to the website if you are interested in the CD.

Re: Bruckner 4 on TSO Live

Andrew, bassically there is 2 main schools in building rotaries: German and Austrian.

1. At present the best reputated austrian builders seems to be Lechner and Schagerl.
2. German - here would be the place to mention Thein and Ricco Kuhn - both are excellent. I have heard also good things about Gerd Dowids in Munich, but never tried one. Bellow you will find the links:

Lechner Bischofshofen - Handmade Brassinstruments

Schagerl Meisterinstrumente - Instrumentenhandel - Notenversand - CD's - Onlineshop - Schülerinstrumente - uvm.

IMO Ganther is not bad, though a bit light. I used to play one while I was in college (that's the only rotary the RNCM had)

Re: Bruckner 4 on TSO Live

I forgot to mention that austrian and german orchestra do not necessarily use trumpets built in their respective countries. For example the 2 principal of Berlin at present play on Schagerls, while the second is using Lechner. I bet that you will find plenty of German players using austrian trumpets and lot of austrian players using germans horns...Figure it out yourself

Re: Bruckner 4 on TSO Live

trumpetnick,
Thanks for the quick response. I actually like my Ganter pretty well. The main reason I want to try something new is that I always feel like I'm fighting it, especially with the pitch. I'll check those sights out.
Thanks!
Andrew

If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times, get a Schagerl. It's worth it.
