Hi Andrew,
I've already posted this question in a general forum, but I'd like to hear what you have to say on the subject. A friend of mine recently told me about a pro she knows who plays Clarke's 2nd study in as many ways possible. I was curious about what kind of alterations you do ie. keys, modes, interval combinations, etc. This is all of course keeping in mind the concepts of beautiful tone, breath control, slow practice.

Hello Phil,
I do some different key work with the clarkes. The thing I do the most though is articulation. All of the Clarke studies are repeated. I always play the first time slurred as written and the second time I substitute my own articulation pattern. I find this really helps me practice articulation after having really set up a good air habit from slurring. You can do any pattern you want. Just try to mix them up and really work to keep the sound just as good as it was during the slurred section.
