2006 FONT ?

Wilmer-

Do you know what's up with this year's FONT? The website has been down for a while and I'm beginning to wonder... I haven't heard anything back from Dave recently.

Thanks in advance.
-Kelly

I am one of the FONT advisors. This is an excerpt from a letter from Dave about this year's FONTmusic

Dear Advisors!
I hope you all are enjoying the summer. "I will update you soon," turned into three months of touring and traveling... But here is a somewhat abbreviated email with news about our not inconsiderable progress. Please feel free to contact me with suggestions, questions, and practicing tips!

The brochures: There are more if needed, and we are beginning to plot out a festival booklet that will cover all 2006 dates.

Festival Highlights will include:
September 16 concert at Merkin Hall with myself and Roy Campbell presenting Don Cherry's Symphony for Improvisers, as well as original music featuring each of us in quartet format.
September 19 - 24 at The Jazz Standard including appearances by Marcus Belgrave, Wallace Roney, Avishai Cohen, Jeremy Pelt, Ingrid Jensen, Taylor Ho Bynum, Greg Glassman, Sean Jones, Lina Allemano, David Weiss, and others.
Sundays Sept. 17 & 24, Oct. 1 & 8 at Yamaha: FREE Seminar Days, followed by an early evening concert, including a panel discussion featuring Ron Anderson, Atlantic Brass and more.
October 3, 4 & 5 New Trumpet New Music New York at MAKOR, presenting the new works.
October 10 - 14 New Trumpet Underground Series at Cornelia Street Cafe.

Other shows still in development!

And:

BENEFIT CONCERT for MUSIC IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS
OCTOBER 15
ST. MARK'S IN THE BOWERY 2 PM - 5 PM
RECEPTION AFTERWARDS IN THE PARISH HOUSE

Ideas include:
SILENT AUCTION?
INSTRUMENT DONATIONS?
MUSIC STANDS, FOLDING CHAIRS, ETC.?

All best,
Dave Douglas

Mr. Wise,
Is it likely that a full schedule of events might be printed here once things settle in? I live in Tennessee, and would love to hear as many of the concerts as possible, but will need to make plane and hotel reservations, etc., as far in advance as possible. I didn't have any luck finding a web site for the festival, but might try that again.
If there is a way to post the schedule on this site, it would be both interesting and helpful. Thanks, I enjoy and appreciate your willingness to share your experience here. George Tidwell

We're playing FONT this year--opening day, Sept. 15, sharing the bill with Ben Neill. Venue and details to come (I just got the word).

Needless to say we can't wait to do it.
