Smithi20 has a spectacular aura about
Arban

Hi Wilmer, just as a devilīs advocate for the 21st century, I think that Arban is not the be all end all. Sure, iīve forgtten how to breathe (too young) so iīll never be a teacher.... and love playing too low as well as too high... is there a book that teaches us what we can play now...well.

I can't think of any replacement for the Arban book.
Most players find the Arban book challenging. If you can get through the thorny studies in there, playing today's music is not really that much of a stretch.
The question is "Can you REALLY play the Arban book?"
Wilmer

That's a good question. I still find Arban studies challenging. But if you don't and you want another french methode try Merri Franquin's Methode Complete de la Trompette Moderne de Cornet a Pistons et de Bugle.

Re: Arban

I suppose thatīs the perfect combination, Arban and ears! Although I havenīt picked it up in 20 years, it has grounded even my most improvised playing. I just think itīd be great to have a volume of mid-late 20th century techniques to refer to as well, but will have to use the ears instead!

Nick, thanks but Trompette Moderne has a whole different meaning for me!

I agree that it is very different....Hmmm but that's what popped in my head. If you just want similar book but just slightly different exercises probably you should look at some method books of the same time...Difficult to find something so comprehensive though. Just My 0.02$
