Recording that must have been incredibly exciting. Especially getting a nod from him.

I was listening to Aretha Franklin sing "Somewhere" today from the "Aretha's Jazz" album. Absolutely killin' arrangement of a beautiful song.

What a ringing endorsement - "Great genius 1st Trumpet player."
Just recently,I watched Chita "ANITA" Rivera* included in the group that received the 2009 Medal of Freedom.

Those exciting times reminds me of Richie Havens of Brooklyn singing FREEDOM .

*Chita Rivera - Broadway history was made when Rivera’s electric performance as Anita in the Broadway premiere of West Side Story brought her stardom.

Re: August 25

What a great video!

What year was that-it looked like 70's vintage?

Re: August 25

I think the maestro and the recording engineer may have "talked" afterwards. The first take was right on the money.
It reminds me of a Herseth/Reiner story where the engineer thought he heard a mistake in the first cornet part and thought they should do another take. Herseth said to Reiner it was perfect, Reiner knew it was too and asked the engineer to apologize to Mr. Herseth. The piece was the Lt. Kije suite and we all know it was indeed perfect.
The youtube cut does not do justice to the spendid sound. (But thank goodness it is out for all to see). I have the 2 record set and Mr. Wise and company sound great.
It looked like an all Bach section. Wilmer, were you using your usual large, deep mouthpiece or did you go to something shallower?
My recording shows a copyright of 1985 which is usually the recording year.
Regards,
Rich T.
