![]() ![]() ![]() | Charles Tolliver Big Band Jimmy Owens told me that he's working with the band. They are appearing at Birdland. I'll hang at the bar, I think I can stay awake for the first set. I will tell you about it tomorrow. Wilmer |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Howard Johnson is playing Baritone Sax in this ensemble. He gave, to me anyway, the best description of a conductor's skills. He said,"That guy could not conduct even if he were wrapped in copper wire." Wilmer |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Tolliver's band is baaaaaaaaad! The whole band are capable soloists. The rhythm section,JohnHicks, Victor Lewis and Cecil McBee, were solid as a rock. There is a young man, David Guy, who is going to be noticed after this gig. The kid has some serious chops! They are there until Sunday, it's a worth-while visit. Wilmer |
