Wilmer,

I sent the clip to my friend Joe Messina and just heard back from him.

Joe is the guitar player you hear on that clip. He was in the studio band for Soupy. He later became the "white part of the Oreo cookie" in the "Funk Brothers", the crack Motown backing band.

Joe said he remembers that session well. Brownie was a GREAT talent and he enjoyed that session a lot.

Here is a link to Joe:

This site is a great read too.

Thanks Wilmer:

A few years ago someone told me "Listen to someone play, and I will tell you all about their personality". Whe you hear and see this clip, Cliffords style matches his personality. Clifford was into chess and mathematics....you hear that in the complexity of his solos. According to everyone that knew him he was the sweetest guy.....Does any sound get sweeter than his....even when he's flying all over the horn....his sound is always so sweet.

Great video! I just heard Leroy Jones at Donna's in New Orleans a couple weeks ago, and Leroy plays a lot like Clifford did - but over New Orleans tunes. It's great to hear Clifford's influence in today's players.
