BADBOY-DON will become famous soon enough
Doc Cheatham and NICHOLAS PAYTON

Wilmer,
When I saw that you mentioned that you were meeting up with Terence...I dug through my CDs and found a couple of wonderful old Doc recordings.
Some really heart felt stuff.
You could almost hear the adoration and respect that Nick gave Doc on that duo CD. simply titled "Doc Cheatham and Nicholas Payton and to this ol badboy that was truly a historical CD that meld the old with the new.

I truly believe that this album should be in everyones collection. It is pure history, and a lotta of love and so much respect thrown in.
Today, it seems that so many newer trumpet artists try to make a cutting contest when they perform with many of the icons.

What really makes this CD so special it so beautifully illustrates just how vital and viable Doc "Adolphus" remains for his 91 years.
We were so blessed to have Doc play a Gig here in the Seattle area...almost on the 91st birthday.
We went out and bought the biggest birthday cakes we could find and celebrated it that last night he was here, that last cold wet and rainy NW night. (I am not so sure that perhaps our NW weather could have been the turning point and he contracted a really bad chest cold on returning to NY.)

This CD is a must....I am listening as I type to another Doc CD. This one is simply titled "The eighty-seven years of Doc Cheatham"
Yes, behind the great Satch...I just have to put him waaay up there too, on one of the very greatest "Legendary Pioneers of Trumpet Jazz" www.jazzcanadiana.on.ca/_CHEATHAM.htm
n'all that jazz.
Long live his memory, especially through his lovely recordings that to this old toot...make the tears well up all too easily.

Wilmer...when you see Terence, toast or play one for the "First Doc!" for us?

(Thanks Trent...for finding my mistake from hell...and correcting my messed up brain.)
"Mutta's..Don't let your kids grow up to be cow-boys!" (or trumpet players?...just razzin

BADBOY-DON"

THE DONALD ?
The Big Bad Donald of the Pacific North West ?

I heard you were either cruising the 7 Seas since your retirement and AOL days or tooting your pocket cornet in rush hour traffic around King County

Like Wilmer, you can run but you damn sure can't hide from an old gum-shoe.

By the way,did Capt.Dick air-lifted you to this joint ?

According to Benny Carter,DOC also played a mean tenor.
I was never fortunate to capture a recording of DOC's tenor voice.

I concur.
Just curious, have you had the opportunity to listen to Jimmy Witherspoon & Gerry Mulligan with Ben Webster,Mel Lewis,Leroy Vinnegar & Jimmy Rowles ?

The first cut "Times' Gettin' Tougher Than Tough" is a work of art.
