  | Erskine Hawkins big band Hey Wilmer... I just thought you might appreciate this. Great band! I don't know who the first trumpet soloist was...but MAN! what a great sound and great ideas! Enjoy!

| Re: Erskine Hawkins big band Wilbur "Dud" Bascomb is the player. When I moved to NYC in 1970, Dud was in the trumpet section of "Purlie." My friend Patti Bown was playing piano in the show, she introduced me to Dud. We really hit it off, I very quickly became a sub in the band. Jimmy Sedlar, Al Stewart and Dud were the trumpet section. Dud was a very special player. Wilmer
