Freddie is one of my all time favorite trumpet players.
I've followed Mr.Hubbard since the 60's (Village Gate),and the very last time I saw him on the bandstand was circa 1976 at Carnegie Hall,NYC with two Pittsburgh,Pa natives - Stanley Turrentine & George Benson.
The question for the evening s/b : Are You Ready For Freddie .
I hear his voice on Maiden Voyage every day since 1965.

Who GOD bless no man curse !

Re: Freddie Hubbard

One of my favorites: Freddie's playing on the Double Live Album with the Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers; "Live Messengers". All I have to say is: "It's Only A Paper Moon" Chorus upon chorus of fertile Improv! He never repeats himself, and each chorus is more intense than the previous one! Improvisation of the highest order!

Video Freddie Hubbard - Freddie, Hubbard, Jazz, video - Dailymotion Share Your Videos
This is my favorite Freddie video on the net. He is just killing on this tune.

Freddie is one of my favorites as well. No one came close when it came to intense energetic solos that showed incredible virtuosity. Just listen to him play about 40 choruses of the blues on Byrdlike. That solo is incredible.

If you can, check out the album called Live at the Left Bank. There are two of them, one is purple and one is yellow. (same cover picture). The purple one is such an amazing set. The crowd is going crazy, Freddie is playing circles around each tune and the band is right there with him. One of his finest live shows I have heard.

Yes, Freddie at Left Bank. The crowd does go crazy! What a place to hear jazz! I saw Freddie, Woody Shaw, Dexter Gordon, Rahsaan, Philly Joe, the Marsalis brothers, Woody Herman, and Faddis there 25-30 years ago.

Are there still Left Bank Jazz Society concerts at the Famous Ballroom? Those concerts kept me sane in Baltimore from 1965-1970.
It was my chance to hang with the guys.

Re: Freddie Hubbard

The Famous I believe has been closed for years. I know for a time the Left Bank had concerts at Coppin State College. I don't know where they are these days [if they are doing anything at all]. I can tell that it is not like the old Famous Ballroom days.
