| Mezzo Forte User | Freddie hubbards ring when i was 16 years freddie caME to san diego to play the catermaran. James zollar, lennon honer, and my self ,went to the gig with our horns. We new most of his songs even his solo,s note for note! he lets us sit in on redclay, and was so amazed he gave me one of his rings! In the inside it say,s .......FRANSISCO. Now ,one time a drummer ask if he could sit in, freddie said yea. when the drummer came up to the stage, freddie sent everyone on break. So we wouldnt just let anyone sit in. some times he would change the key in certin songs, just to throw you off. We were ready for that Now im 38 and i still have the ring! It,s silver and tourquise(cant spell) with a lil cup, which im sure you know what it was used for. Anyway, i haent seen him since, but when i do, i know he will remember it So now i wear his ring as proud as fred sanford would doing the ink spots!Just thought i,d share. peaceand hair grease. |

![]() ![]() | Freddie almost got us arrested back in the day. I lived at 11th Street and 7th Avenue back in the 70s. It was a six floor walkup apartment. Freddie had finished a gig at Sweet Basil and we were doing some serious hanging. I mentioned to Freddie that I had a really old Bach from 1926 and his eyes lit up. We stumbled back to my place, climbed all those stairs The Village at 4:00 am is a very quiet place. Freddie started to play loud enough to wake the dead. I grabbed my horn! I thought the fool was going to break it. Lights were coming on all over the place Wilmer |

| Pianissimo User | I didn't even know he was still alive. I'm new to jazz, and one of the things I have learned is that many of the greats died young. I thought Maynard wasn't around anymore until about a month ago. I also thought Freddie was not longer with us until, well, now! I'm very excited to know he's still active! I hope to catch him at a concert sometime. |
