| Forte User | Re: George Swift Wow, those were incredible. What kind of horn is he playing? It is quite bright for a Bb, but I have a hard time telling on older recordings. Eb? Picc?

![]() ![]() | Re: George Swift Hi Wilmer Thanks for that little gem about George Swift. I had never heard about this incredible British player before, and am completely dumbfounded that in all my time playing cornet, nobody i know has ever talked about him. Until i heard the recordings of Jules Levy, i genuinely thought that brass playing now is the best that it ever has been. George has yet again disproved this ignorant theory. I wonder if there is any old recordings of the St.Hildas Brass Band that he used to play in? It would be interesting to compare them to the modern "world class" bands such as Black Dyke, and the Cory Band? I suspect that few, if any of the current principals in any of those bands could play those solos! Cheers B.U.M. |
