Pops actual birthday is listed as August 4th, 1901. I never met Pops.

Thanks for the clip, Wilmer. It is nice to hear Louis’ voice.

This means it is time to get out my Louis t-shirt that I purchased in New Orleans, play his large collection of music recordings housed in my apartment, and get out that salute to Louis with Leroy Jones, the Danish Radio Jazz Orchestra and Jim McNeely.

There is a free concert tonight at 7 pm at the Louis Armstrong House in Queens. Trumpeter Eddie Allen and Friends, including Ray Vega, will be performing there. Visit Satchmo.net • The Official Site of the Louis Armstrong House & Archives for more information about the event and Louis.

There is also some sheet music that is co-sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Smithsonian featuring transcriptions of his Hot Five including “West End Blues.” It is good to know that this music is out there.

When I met POPS,he was more a singer than a trumpeter (heart problems).
Among many things,he was a true ENTERTAINER !
I love Jimmy's AFRO. It was tiny in comparison to the one sported by Cecil
Bridgewater.
That 'time passage' plays a cruel joke on our hair,memory and jump-shot :)
