Sonny Stitt and J.J. Johnson were there standing by. It's a shame their solos weren't heard.

Missing JJ Johnson and Sonny Stitt is a disappointment but getting video footage of Howard McGee is a treat in itself

Thanks Jerry !
Howard is one of those trumpeters who excels in "Live" performances.
I have a Sept 27,1947 recording titled "Mayhem in Manhattan" where in my humble opinion,Howard burned down the house with his performance on Perdido.
It's a Norman Granz staged Midnight Matinee at Carnegie Hall and the band included:
Illinois Jacquet,Joe Filipelli a/k/a Flip Phillips,tenor saxophones;
Bill Harris,trombone;Hank Jones,piano;Ray Brown,bass;Jo Jones,drums.

Edward "Sonny" Stitt was the first musician I ever saw who played for hours
and who with every drink sounded better.

I didn't know that Charles was Maggie's son!
Here a snapshot of Charles and my Brooklyn neighbor, Bob Cunningham.

If I remember correctly, Charles McGhee played two horns at once
