| Ingrid Jensen Last Saturday ((9/30) I attended the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild 20th Season opening act that featured Dr.Billy Taylor, piano;Chip Jackson, bass; Winard Harper, drums;with Special Guests: Frank Wess, sax;Ingrid Jensen, trumpet;Russell Malone, guitar. Ms.Jensen was prominently featured and she turned in a stellar performance especially on the song titled "SOUL." She is a bonafide BOPPER ! Mr.Wess' solo rendition of "Lush Life" was out of this world. Long live BOP ! KJ in the 'Burgh. |

| Killer Joe! GADS! TALK ABOUT ENVUE! About your Manchester gig. Dr. Billy Taylor, Frank Wess, and the beautiful Ingrid Jensen. A few years ago...I know you have heard this from me many many times over but I was invited by my Cornish friends, to sit in with an Igrid Jensen clinic and performance. It was love at first sight and sound. Ingrid is one beautiful lady with soooo much talent and soul. Ingrid has such a love for music and teaching....and this really comes through when she conducts these wonderful clinics and performances. Any one who has the opportunity to attend a Ingrid Jensen workshop will truly be uplifted by the experience. What a musican's musican and one gifted trumpet player to enjoy. |

I do remember you mentioning the event during the old AOL days. I also remember the police chase around King County when you insisted on using your pocket horn rather than the one provided by Cadillac. Are you in touch with Al Molina & Vern Thompson ? I expected to see those cats as well as Mike Vax hanging in this joint. KJ |

The Trumpet Nation concert is a fun event that I have participated in for the last couple years. This year Ingrid Jensen is one of the tribe of trumpets playing at the concert. I hope you get to meet her and if the opportunity becomes available do ask her if she enjoys visiting the 'Burgh and playing at the Guild. It goes without saying but from the audience reaction including yours truly, her solo performance on "Soul" on the evening of 9/30/2006 was awesome. BTW,BAD BOY-DON's screenname reminds me of the song "BIG BAD HENRY" penned by Roland Hanna and performed by Edward 'Sonny' Stitt in 1974 on his album titled SATAN whose trumpet section included one Wilmer Wise & James Sedlar. Do you happen to know how this title originated and if it's a reference to the famous bassist from Barrett Jr,High in South Philadelphia ? |

She really "gets around that horn" with her improv. So many trumpet players I have heard say that her improvisational skill make so much musicial sense when compared to so many other players...who seem to "get lost and end up sounding like they are just playing some kind of Arban practice scales. Ingrid Jensen uses the theme of the song...and then takes it from there. Her music patterns (riffs and improv is always soooooooooo darned musical.) Give Ingrid our best from the ol' Boeing buds here in the NW. My friend Nick Dyson, took his beautiful little girl friend with us to the Cornish event. I think she was a little concerned to see how bofus' trumpet geeks was so blown away by her beautiful musical presentations at that performance with her team of colleagues at the Cornish. Stay well and warm in the buuuuuuuuuuuuurg?' The last trumpet gig I played was for a memorial of a dear friend of mine, who chose to end his life, because his health was in a death spiral. Bottom line: Like the song says: (that I was back a soloist on---"They are no mistakes, just lessons to be learned. n' all that jazz....Nice to see you posting. KillerJ. | |

| Speaking of Vern Thompson....Yes, I love that CD of his that you so graciously sent to me. I talk with Al Molina via E mail once in a while. He used to stop by the NW and sit in with Bobby Shew and gang at Port Townsend Jazz Fest. I hope this link still works: www.almolina.org check out his tasty clips! What a great sound of that flug of his. Last edited by BADBOY-DON : 10-19-2006 at 07:45 PM. Reason: bad link: |

| Ah yes....Joe!!!! I remember that Cornish Gig all so very very well....Yes, Ingrid is truly a gift for not only dead ol' eyeballs...but most of all, a balm for the ear-balls as well. She really "gets around that horn" with her improv. So many trumpet players I have heard say that her improvisational skill make so much musicial sense when compared to so many other players...who seem to "get lost and end up sounding like they are just playing some kind of Arban practice scales. Greetings Brother Don : Ingrid is indeed a beautiful (literally & figuratively) performer. Part of the problem with those other players you have in mind is: They are so busy learning the tricks of the trade that they never learn the damn trade. There is a reason why we old timers refer to musicians as Craftsmen/women and why only a few grow in statue to become Master Craftsmen/women. Keep BOP Alive ! |
