Wilmer,

I'm "old school" too but could never play it as I wanted to on the D trumpet. I'll lend you my G though.

Behold, I tell you a mystery...

I had a D slide made for my Eb trumpet a number of years ago just for that piece. Funny thing, the horn played better in D than in Eb!

I do so love Handel's music.

Played Messiah twice a long time ago. Who knows, maybe the future has another chance in it somewhere.

Wilmer,

My roomate bought an old Getzen D trumpet on ebay for about $300 and it plays like a dream. I'll be playing it on "The Trumpet Shall Sound" on my second Sunday service. I played through it on my piccolo, but I get a bigger sound on the D trumpet and it's just such a fun instrument to play.

Re: It's that time again

Wilmer,
do you swing or dot the 8th note runs? Any other embellishments?

Looking at the hysterical aspect, the bigger horn probably provides a better blend with the bass (if he is a REAL bass).
A Piccolo or G trumpet sound generally didn't sound powerful enough to me to RAISE THE DEAD, although enough cracked notes on a not adequately dusted off D would probably change the direction of this piece................. something about the trumpets mortality, or so.........

My preference is simplicity. I stick to to ink unless given license to stretch out. The basso and I usually sit down and plan strategy. I like to keep it simple
