Jimmy Owens interview in latest Jazz Improv

Picked up an issue of Jazz Improv Spring 2008 Issue with a good photo and interview with our brotha in brass....The amazing JIMMY OWENS...

This issue also has a host of exclusive interviews and a good CD with a couple of really interesting trumpet noodlings by Arturo Sandoval and Rich Wetzel...(my good trumpet bud from here in the Tacoma area.

Re: Jimmy Owens interview in latest Jazz Improv

photo would not load to to size restriction...daaaa! Sorry gang.
I was hoping for better interviews...but anything about the trumpet players and the CD almost makes the $14.95 worth the value.
Hey that's only around 3 gallon of gas around these parts anyhoo? :(

Greetings Brother Don.
It's a little over 6 years since you sent me a FREE copy of Volume 3,Number 3 of Jazz Improv that featured Jimmy's interview.
Jimmy offered some very insightful and noteworthy points in his June 28,2001 interview with Eric Nemeyer and he must have opened lots of young eyes especially those with bent horns when he said, and I quote:
" If Miles picked up Dizzy Gillespie's trumpet and his mouthpiece and played on it--he would sound like Miles Davis. And that's the essence of being a true, unique,Jazz artist."

Brother Don:
It's time to clean up and inflate the tires of your SCHWINN,15 speed and get in gear.
Here in Western Pennysylvania, one is either up or down hill and although I love the down hill ride, the up hill thing is a drag and generally leads to a cell phone call for a ride.
With the passage of time, the mind is willing but the flesh is weak.

For high notes take a listen to Cat Anderson on SUMMERTIME from his CD titled
Cat's In The Alley.

Ac-cent-tchu-ate The Positive.
