I think I am going to have to get a copy of that. I love Lee.
I had no idea he had false teeth.

Re: Lee Morgan Bio

There is an article about Lee Morgan in this month's (January) Downbeat magazine as well...

I love The Sidewinder, but I had no idea of the background or that it was truly a "comeback" record in many ways...

Re: Lee Morgan Bio

The review spoke of a Philly bandleader borrowing a horn for Lee. I know a bit about that. The height- challenged, saxophone playing member of the famous brothers band from South Philly borrowed a Meha Besson from his Wharton Street neighbor Never could get that Howdy Doody sound with that horn

Wilmer
This is the first I'm reading that there is such a book.
I hope the author examined and outlined the forces that shaped Lee's life.
I first met Lee in NYC in 1963 and one of the great things I love about him is his enthusiasm and happiness among people especially the musicians who joined him in making music.
Having read the outline in the link provided,I got a chuckle when the author mentioned that Lee was fired by Mr.Blakey...it brought to mind that Dizzy was fired by Cab and John Coltrane was fired by Miles.
Just look how those two turned out.

Lee never mentioned how he lost his teeth neither did that subject ever came up in conversations but from second hand sources,it was told that Hank Mobley said he suffered the lost at the hands of the NYPD.
If true,it's an experience previously shared by Miles outside Birdland and Bud Powell in Philadelphia.

I'm sure there are a few trumpet and woodwind players with false teeth.
One such player is the legendary Sonny Rollins.
My friend,if you choose a career as a professional trumpet player,NEVER reveal to anyone if you have less than the 32 teeth you were born with neither should you reveal any dental problems,if any, before turning age 66,as there are those who without hearing you would write about your lost of embouchure.

Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars!

LOL !
In these parts, that height-challenged saxophone player is known as:
"Little Man Big Band."
Mr.Jimmy Heath is one of jazz music longest-standing,most respected players.
I always look forward to his semi-annual/annual visits to the 'Burgh.

Howdy Doody was a monster when armed with a horn.

Wilmer and fellow members,do you have a copy of the recent released DVD titled BROTHERLY JAZZ featuring The Heath Brothers ?
It's an essential and it runs approximately 70 minutes.

The Heath Brothers have made the world a better place.
That's what jazz is all about - Sonny Rollins.
