A Little Night Music

Hi Wilmer (And Others)
TK told me that I should ask you this, so...
Have you played the trumpet book on A Little Night Music?
I'm rehearsal Pianist for a local production, and may have a chance to play Trumpet in the pit too. Is it written for C or Bb? Any mutes I'll need to get in advance (I've got Straight, Cup and Harmon)?

Thanks in Advance

Brendan

I was just thinking about that show. ALNM was the first real hit show I played on Broadway. Ernie DiFalco was the lead player on this one. Ernie passed away last month.
The music is gorgeous, but the trumpet parts are not thrilling at all. There are less than 200 notes in this very beautiful show.
I loved it, even though I was a spectator.
Wilmer

Cheers Wilmer
Lucky me, getting to play the Piano! I'm loving the score So Far.

Bagnewauckland - do you need to change your breathing much to play a piano? Ok! Ok! Ok! it wasn't that funny.

Re: A Little Night Music

lol
When I get back to trumpet from piano, I find that I have to breathe more (I feel like I can breathe whenever I want at a keyboard!)

sorry...

Re: A Little Night Music

Sorry for Double Posting.
First rehearsal was today, all went well.
Apparently, I'm going to be playing a crazy reduction of all 3 horn parts and some of the trumpet lines on an Eb Horn... sounds like fun

Jonathan Tunick's orchestrations are highlights of the show. It's almost criminal to alter them.

Re: A Little Night Music

Alas, we are but a community theatre who cannot afford to pay 20+ musicians, and have to cut it down, which is a shame.

That's often the case nowadays. While the orchestrations won't be complete you can still appreciate the great Sondheim songs!
