![]() ![]() ![]() | Mother's Day I just heard "I'll always love my Mama" on the radio. I am on this Philly oldie with Johnny Coles. We played on a lot of pre-TSOP records together Wilmer |

Unlike McFadden & Whitehead,I don't recall Gamble and Huff listing the players behind the vocalist. Were you also 'tooting your horn' with those guys who gave us: "For The Love Of Money ?" Last edited by Joe DiMonte : 05-12-2007 at 10:20 PM.

| Re: Mother's Day Wilmer, Your career is so interesting... who would you compare yourself with of a couple of generations ago that played as wide a variety of gigs as you have? I'm thinking of players from Vacchiano's era that played everything. My first thought was Manny Klein but he didn't ever play with the Philharmonic, Met and such (unless I'm mistaken). Charlie Margolies? I just wondered if you ever thought about that. ML |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Mother's Day Manny, I never really thought about it. Life in NYC demands versatility. I think of Manny Klein and Joe Wilder as role models. Mel Broiles was also busy doing things other than the Met. Mel is on that "Music for Brass" album with Miles Allen Dean swings. John Glasel, one of the early players in the New York Brass Quintet, was busy on Broadway and the freelance concert field. Neil Balm played with the Louis Bellson band. Me........I have been blessed to be at the right place, at the right time. Wilmer |

However,if you examine the records you will find that while you were a resident in Baltimore,MD playing to the tuxedo/formal wear/black tie and gown audience,in your hometown of Philadelphia,Pa two local groups - 'The Monarchs' and 'The Percussions' met at a talent show in 1968 at Ben Franklin High school, and from that meeting RUSSELL THOMPKINS,JR star shun brightly and 'The Stylistics' were born. Thom Bell and Linda Creed wrote some beautiful songs for those cats.

Manny,in addition to your beautiful remarks, you have raised a brain teaser. As I sit here thinking,I'm hard pressed to name a trumpeter, any trumpeter, whose career is/was as broad as THE WISE ONE. The man was deeply involved in Classical,Jazz,Broadway,R&B,DISCO,and his participation with Montego Joe tells me he is no stranger to Latin rhythms. I would not be surprise to learn he was also an active participant in ROCK,POP,and FOLK. gfo including wt
