Re: music prices

I paid $375 for my first Bach Strad. It had a gold brass bell. Everything is relative. Cars use to cost less than $2000

I think you can still buy a Marceau Bb cornet for about $6.85. They really hold their value!

Don't forget what the hourly wage was when those horns were new......

Might be happier now.

Really ?
The pay per gig was less than the cost of the instrument and it would take about 10 gigs as 'a leader' of the band to recoup your purchase cost.

Have you observed how those elite writers describe the "spit" valve as a "water" valve ?

The minimum wage per hour during my birth year (1945) was 40 cents per hour.
I'm sure our beloved "WISE ONE" would frown at that 40 cents since in 1938 it was 25 cents per hour.

Thanks for that trip down Memory Lane !

It's funny you mention that, because I own the double water key model in nickel and paid $8 for it on ebay. Note that the original list was $8.95
