Mutes

I don't really know how many I have
I am working on a piece written by Ulysses Kay that calls for a solo-tone and a straight mute in one of the movements. My Shastock solo-tone is much, much better than the Humes and Berg mutes I have. You can go nuts with straight mutes, they all seem to have some positive qualities.
Decisions, decisions, decisions

Re: Mutes

My mute collection is around 90 and constantly growing! Wilmer, have you tried the Walt Johnson solo-tone? I believe that he calls it the "Gatsby mute". Apparently Rod Baltimore carries them. I have a friend who just bought the Harmon and LOVES it!

Re: Mutes

Awesome! Let us know how the Johnson mutes play. I am really considering just buying them all, if for nothing else to add to the collection! The solo-tone and insertable bucket sound really awesome!

I have the Jo-Ral bucket mute and two H&B buckets. I am always on the lookout for goodies.

Re: Mutes

I am the owner of a Gatsby mute, they still have a few at Rod Baltimore's shop. It is a much more in-tune mute than my Shastock solotone mute.

Re: Mutes

I just bought a Gatsby mute too, it is pretty good! Doesn't quite sound the same as the Stonelined, but it is much more fun to play.
