Re: piccolo trumpet in C???

Yamaha used to make a Custom long bell model piccolo A/Bb/C. i don't think they make it anymore. I guess having a C piccolo would work well for the Brandenburg.

Re: piccolo trumpet in C???

Schilke still produces one called the C5-4. It is basically the P5-4 shortened to the key of C. I believe that they are custom orders only. One was sold on Ebay not too long ago.

I had one of the old Yamaha A/Bb/C models briefly. I wasn't crazy about it.

Re: piccolo trumpet in C???

I'm pretty sure that the horn he's playing is a Yamaha...I've played one of those before...plays in C/Bb/A. I can see why they discontinued the model though...trying to make a horn play well in 3 keys, so they end up only playing ok in each key, and not great in any.

Re: piccolo trumpet in C???

Yet, he sounds great on a horn that is being put down............... could it be the player and not the horn?

I had a chance to play on the prototype C that Schilke built for Yamaha, and it played like a dream, gently "wrapping" each note the way Schilkes do; Ed Tarr is pleased with his A and Bb by Yamaha. Yamaha's A/Bb/C combo is a compromise, with the C being the best, and they feel to me like they have little to no core--like sticking a mouthpiece into a bell. If they started selling a dedicated C piccolo they might have more luck.
