R.I.P Johnny Griffin

Saxophonist Johnny Griffin, 80, Dies - Breaking News From New Jersey - NJ.com

He was a fantastic player. I love the quote at the end about why he played so fast

"I got so excited when I played and I still do," he once said. "I want to eat up the music like a child eating candy."

Re: R.I.P Johnny Griffin

These are tearful times.
Two fine guitarists also passed away this week.
Joe Beck and Hiram Bullock have passed away.

Re: R.I.P Johnny Griffin

Time for some reflective tough tenor listening and a good serve of the Gil Evans Big Band.

Always sad to loose such talent. Always grateful they have been recorded.

Let them not be lost.

It is indeed. It sucks getting older. Not because of the aches and pains so much, but because of the growing tally of people who are gone that you admire.

Re: R.I.P Johnny Griffin

I think i saw Hiram Bullock at the Iridium with Randy Brecker and have some Joe Beck albums on the pile here to be converted to cd.

They will all be greatly missed.
