![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sarah Caldwell R.I.P. Sarah Caldwell conducted the Brooklyn Philharmonic in 1977.....I think. The concert was memorable for several reasons. Berlioz" Symphonie Fantastique" was the main work on the program. I got a chance to play the cornet solo part in the work. I might have been the first to perform the Arban inspired part in NYC. We played a Sunday matinee concert that one of our important players, the first horn, mistakenly thought was the usual evening starting time. The Berlioz was cancelled and the orchestra SIGHT-READ the Prokofiev "Classical Symphony." It's not a job, it's an adventure Wilmer

![]() | Caldwell I was able to catch her conduct the National Symphony at Wolf Trap back in the late 70's doing Prokofiev "War and Peace". Amazing control she had over the extremes in volume and texture of the orchestra. Bill Dishman Gainesville, Florida |
