![]() | Thanks for sharing O Wise One. I watched all three videos in their entirety and they brought back fond memories of the good old days. Video 1 - I had seen the Mingus band in NYC about a week or two prior to their departure for Europe. I've always heard great things about that famous April 12,1964 concert at Oslo University and the wait to see it now was worth it. I also heard the post-concert party with Mr.Mingus abusive actions towards Eric caused him (Eric) to quit the band the following morning . Unfortunately, about three months later he collapsed on the bandstand in Berlin and died. Video 2 - It's so much fun watching two mastercraftsmen (Gerry Mulligan & Benny Bailey) trade notes. That song (Goodbye Pork Pie Hat) is a fitting tribute to the late, great Lester Young. I was in Montreux on July 1975 celebrating my 5th wedding anniversary when in the Casino I spotted Dizzy then Roy Eldridge and before my head started to spin up jumped CT (Clark Terry). Althought I didn't get to see them perform I was lucky to catch Archie Shepp with Cameron Brown. Cameron Brown and yours truly arrived in this world on Dec 21,1945. He in Detroit and yours truly in Kings County,Brooklyn. Video 3 - It appears that Mr.Blakey assembled a post 1977 (1977 was the last time I saw the Messangers) band as Freddie looks a bit portly from his "earned income" while with CTI . Walter (3 Bips and a Bop) Davis was sensational on that famous jazz gem (Moanin') penned by your Jr.High School classmate. Reggie the bassist is no ordinary Workman, his smile was brighter than the one displayed by Mona Lisa. Again thanks for sharing and the fond memories of yesteryears. Keep Bop alive Live well,Laugh often,Love much. KJ in the 'Burgh.
