That's Gustavo Dudamel and the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra, right? My roommate at Interlochen was a violinist from Venezuela. They have an amazing nation-wide youth orchestra program.

One of today's uniquely gifted conductors, Gustavo Dudamel continues to thrill international audiences and bring the highest level of musicianship to orchestras worldwide. His remarkable ability to communicate and become one with the orchestra takes musicians and listeners alike on a memorable journey. He is currently Principal Conductor of Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, has recently been appointed the Music Director of Los Angeles Philharmonic, effective 2009-10, and enters his ninth year as Music Director of the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela.

I just thought it was a gas...from the enthusiasm of the kids to the wows of the audience...not to mention the playing, which was great. Fun stuff...

Wow. You can see the enthusiasm. I think that level of enthusiasm encourages teamwork and maximum effort. That conductor is a master motivator.

The Venezuelan's have come to terms with the reality that music education is vital and should not be compromised. I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with Francisco Alberto Flores "Pacho". He is one of the finest trumpet players anywhere. He is a product of Venezuela's many music education projects.

Dear Mr.Ray "Boperation" Vega:
Your opening remarks made my eyes jump and caused me to push away and review some vinyls I inherited after my father passed.
First,not many horn players hail from South of the Equator to Cape Horn,and during my late '50s visit to Caracas,the musical scene there was as active as that found on Borinquen Field in Western Puerto Rico or along Ashford Avenue in Condado .
Secondly,although some may point to The Simeon Bolivar Orchestra as the premier band,it was Aldemaro Romero and his Orchestra who dominated the landscape.
Mr.Romero's favortite trumpeter was Leon Merian who hailed from Massachusetts and whose love of music kept him out of both houses of the racial divide in these U.S of A.

One day,I hope to read the real impact and influence that Ambassador Dizzy Gillespie had around the world.

Finally,thanks for the introduction of Francisco Alberto Flores "Pacho" .
