Song For My Father !

Happy 81st Birthday to Mr.Horace "HardBop" Silver,an original Messenger and a leader who almost always featured a trumpeter in his band for the last 55+ years.

KJ in "NUTVILLE" and in "Pursuit of the 27th Man."

Blue Mitchell and Bill Hardman, Horace's trumpet players, are among the most unheralded players of our instrument. They......are.........BAD!!!!!!

Agreed !
If we are to list the names of trumpet players who were "Pieces of Silver,"in a small combo setting, the manor born would be stunned .

His frequent and early 1960's engagements at the corners of Bleecker & Thompson (The Village Gate) are forever etched in my memory.
Among others, that band gave us Joe Henderson, who in my humble opinion is one of the most talented and exciting tenor players that I've followed (for the lack of a better word) from cradle to grave.
