![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Student Trumpets I took most of my lessons with Sigmund Hering on C trumpet, a Conn. I was in High School. I worked on transposition and symphonic repertoire. I played Mr Hering's books on the C trumpet. I played that C all the time. What was your student horn? Wilmer

| Forte User | Re: Student Trumpets You should feel lucky, Wiseman...I started on Amati Consul B flat which I used for quite few years (it has some serious tuning problems and even worst tone). When I got to college, my teacher was generous enough to let me borrow his Blackburn B flat, later a friend let me have this Canadian Brass C and finally I bought a Spada Bach 256 C and later Spada Bach 72 B flat which made me go through college and which I still use as they are great horns. Thanks Rene for saving me from Amati!

![]() | Re: Student Trumpets Conn cornet to begin with. Now I'll give you a little dose of Midwestern farm living. When I was in 9th grade my father let me use his equipment to farm some ground as a share cropper. I took the profit and purchased a Conn 60B. I bet that never happened in Philly! |

![]() | Re: Student Trumpets Started in 1979 Just prior to entering high School on a Conn 16b. I don't remember it being too bad of a horn, but in 1983 as I was graduating, my teacher sold me his old (1970) Yamaha YTR-734. There was a huge difference between the 2.

When I got one. This was in my first year at the conservatory. Quite late actually, I was at age of 25 then. Still use more my B flat, but I use my C trumpet whenever I can.

![]() | Re: Student Trumpets I started on a Bb Holton Stratodyne, which my Dad bought from one of the trumpet players he worked gigs with . It was (and is ) a great playing horn, I stiil have it and the valves ( nickel plated) are stiil perfect. The bell is damaged however , and I would love to find a replacement for it. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Student Trumpets I started on a Cavalier cornet. It had serious valve issues and I got very good at pushing the stuck valve up while playing. After starting on that, playing anything else was easy!

| Mezzo Forte User | Re: Student Trumpets HA, my first horn was an old, OLD beat up Bach... I don't even remember the model (some student thing picked up at a pawn shop by my nonmusical, but loving, father) but it was horrible! But it got me through the first ten years or so. I still have it actually, except now it's a lamp in my study area! lol.
