That is some great playing! Is it true that Alexander Arutunian wrote his concerto for Dokshizer? My teacher showed me his recording of him playing it in the sixties. I really like Dokshizer's playing. I also heard that he uses a 7E mouthpiece! Is that true?

I saw Dokshitzer live , and at a clinic, when he visited America in the late 70's. I looked at his trumpet and it was a Benge, with a Bach 7E mouthpiece. He was a superb artist ; one of the greatest players ever. His playing of the Arutunian is definitive. He died last year, but his recordings are still out there, and they're well worth getting.

I used a 7E once, when i had to play a piccolo trumpet part on my C. That is an experience that i never want to relive. The idea of playing such a small mouthpiece is terrifying now!

Thanks for the videos, Wilmer! I'll have to head over to the shop this morning to watch them. (Highspeed connection there).

The Arutunian Concerto was written for Aikaz Mesiayan. Both he and Dokshizer were students of Tabakov. Dokshizer edited the work and wrote the cadenza, both which were approved by the composer.

True, Dokshizer used a 7E and also a 7C. I believe his Benge was an MLP, that's according to his brother Vladimir. I asked Timofei twice and each time his answer was only, "Benge," no model number stated

Here's a photo of Dokshizer with said MPC and horn:

I highly recommend the book, "The Memoirs of Timofei Dokshizer" published by the ITG. It's the best ten bucks you'll spend. Here's a link to the order form:

www.trumpetguild.org/pdf/dok.pdf

It's a PDF, so probably easier to Right Click, Save As.......

edit: Make that EIGHT bucks! And you can order directly from ITG using PayPal:

http://www.trumpetguild.org/products/index.html

Look under BOOKS at right column.

You can also download some legal mp3s from www.dokshizer.com ......his rendition of Adagio in G minor is as expressive as that of a string quartet. Does anyone know where I can get his CDs? The site has album covers but do not have any links. I particularly want to get Fantastic Dances as it has virtuoso works for violin such as Caprice no. 17 and Zigeunerweisen.
