Varese and Boulez

I have to share this one, Check out the pitch-finder on the guy's horn.
Bird was interested in Varese writings.

Good one, Wilmer... I love that stuff when it's done well like that. And that's the Jack Holland Pitchfinder, too.

Exceptional. Thanks, Wilmer. Varese is such a master of color.

That's a great point, Manny. Even today, it's too rare (IMO) that you hear a performance of a non-tonal work like this with pure tone qualities, great intonation, accurate but fluid rhythm, a full range of dynamics, etc. Boulez is really one of my heroes in his advocacy for performing this music as well as one would perform a composer who writes in more traditional idioms.

Great video Wilmer! Thanks for putting it up.

That was a fabulous peformance and interpretation on Boulez's part.

Some years ago when I first heard Varese, I didn't think much of it, but after performing Integrales and listening more, I have a healthy respect for such a wonderful composer.

That pitch-finder thing is pretty cool too!!
