Various Broadway Shows

I hope I've got a good season coming up. I'm familiar with Ragtime, Sound of Music and Chicago, but don't know much about Thoroughly Modern Millie, High School Musical or Jekyll & Hyde. Any thoughts on any of them?

Unless it has been re-orchestrated, "Jekyll and Hyde" has no trumpets. The "High School Musical" was never on Broadway. "Thoroughly Modern Millie" has lots of notes, but that should be no problem. Think "rickey-tickey," corny twenties style

Thanks Wilmer. Interesting that "Jekyll & Hyde" has no trumpets; the producers were anxious to lock me up for the dates. I guess I'll wait to see about a reorch. "Millie" is first up, starting next week. Sounds like a good warm up.

Jekyll and Hyde has been reorchestrated (in fact, it's a combination of the concept version, the touring version, and the BRoadway version). I played the show doubling on drums and trumpet, so I wasn't able to completely cover each book. If memory serves, the trumpet book is pretty simple- mostly easy lyrical lines.

Wow, "Ragtime" is a bear. I was familiar with it, but until you have to play it you don't realize the concentration you need for 3 hours. The company I work with is completely acoustic and doesn't use a conductor. I've never played so soft. This makes "Millie" seem easy.
