![]() | West Side Story I'm listening to NPR and they're doing a nice piece on WSS to mark the 50th anniversary of it opening up on Broadway. Did you ever play the live production, or just the movie? -Jimi |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: West Side Story It's hard to believe that the show opened fifty years ago. I played the show in a summer tent version in 1967, many years later I subbed on the Broadway revival that starred Debbie Allen. Gino Bozzaco, THE original Broadway cast album lead player, played lead on the revival. I was the lead player on the studio recording with Bernstein. A new version of that date just came out. It has the DVD and the CD in one package for under 30 dollars. I bought a few copies to give to friends. The studio version is different from any of the others. Wilmer |

| Re: West Side Story Last time we talked about this I ordered the DVD. I would imagine that compliments DID NOT come out of L. Bernstein unless he really meant them... not to embarrass Wilmer... but I believe he called him a "genius" trumpet player. My wife and I love that DVD. Not only is the playing fantastic but you really get a feel for the personalities and emotions... NSO friends would tell me stories about him stopping the entire orchestra to tell some inbedded player he was sharp or flat on that chord. Not only an amazing ear but a demand for perfection! Would love to hear stories Wilmer... no names needed. Lets hope this thread sells another 100 DVD's! |

That damn Robert McNamara had me in Panama undergoing jungle warfare training, and while in Panama I never got to see or visit with Victor Paz :) |

| Re: West Side Story Wilmer, You're probably aware of this, however, it seems that 'You-tube' has captured the moment. YouTube - Leonard Bernstein: West Side Story, studio-takes. (4) It must have been a really fabulous time. Not many of us can say they had this sort of praise!! Regards, Trevor |
