| Wilder N' Wilder? First Wilmer..Happy Birthday~ A few weeks ago...while diggin out some Christmas CD's I found my old Joe Wilder CDs and started listening to them again. Which brings to mind....Has anyone checked in on him lately. Gads...What a great gent and Icon. I wish him well...and a Merry Christmas and may the new year bring our Wilder, you and all the rest of our trumpet friends peace, joy, good fortune, best of health...and happiness throughout the year. attached photo of me and my friend Joe playing a Christmas duet, who sadly passed a few years ago. My friend Joe Ferrell gave me my first Joe Wilder CD. After that I too, became a fan of Wilder's wonderful musicianship. ol' shultzie (exiled here in Gig Harbor Wa.) Greetings Brother Don: I did a double take when I saw the name Joe Ferrell and thought for a brief moment you were alluding to Joe 'Moon Germs' Farrell. A few days ago,I heard "The Masked Announcer" (Joel Dorn) died suddenly in NYC and I recall the early '70s when Richard Tee and Joe Farrell called my attention to a rising female star named Roberta Flack and a young producer/ and new kid on the block. By the way,I was expecting to see you featuring the pocket trumpet. Nonetheless, your white gold matching ROLEX wrist watch looks good with the horn. Was that the watch BOEING awarded you for your loyal and enduring service while attempting to blow the ceiling panels off the wind tunnel ? Live well and don't let the rains get you down. |

I got your hint and retrieved and listened to a few of Mr.Wilder's recordings. His take of GREENSLEEVES recorded in 1959 on his album "The Pretty Sound" is indeed pretty and quite appropriate for the season. His Peter Gunn stuff is a "A Quiet and profound Gass." KJ |
