Wilmer Speaks in Harlem

I didn’t know Wilmer could be so entertaining without even playing a trumpet. It was a very enlightening and informative evening last night, as we got acquainted with Wilmer and his family from his childhood in Philly, his school days, some of his good friends and running mates, Ted Curson, Joe Wilder, and Lee Moran and Bobby Timmons (as I was just watching a DVD with Lee Moran and Bobby Timmons they played with Art Blakey), to his gigs from Harlem to the Philadelphia & Baltimore Symphonies, as well as the “Lenny and Wilmer Show” aka West Side Story. We even had a few celebrities in the audience who prompted Wilmer's memory from time to time and added to the question and answer segment. Wilmer also threw in a little master class as he played an excerpt on his Piccolo and explained a few techniques. Was a great evening, and Wilmer seemed to enjoy speaking as much as we enjoyed listening. Thanks Wilmer!

Your description of the Wise One says it all.
Not often does one meet a stalwart who is prepared to take a time-out and share his life experiences with others.
Those cats from Barrett Jr.High are a special breed.

No, Tootie is in California. My buddy, Eddie Preston flew in from Florida to be there. It was fun!

I received an e-mail from a friend describing Eddie's July 26 interview at the
forum.
His resume' is impressive and he and his recordings are elusive as the Kenny Rogers, reeds, that Lee Morgan spoke highly of during the good old days in Jazz Mecca - NYC !
