Wilmer and Wynton's second classical record

Wilmer,

Was just reading the liner notes off of the second classical album (showing my age saying album), and you were thanked in the liner notes. Just wondering your connection to the album. Was going to email you, but thought it would make for a nice read for all to see. Best, Neil

From prior posts,Mr.Wise was revealed to be Wynton's teacher when he (WM) arrived in the Big-Apple.

The thanks is a mutual respect akin to Mr.Faddis thanking Mr.Gillespie for getting him started.

Miles is about the only one who refers to all as his side men.

Re: Wilmer and Wynton's second classical record

I wasn't Wynton's teacher. I was more a friend, big brother, sounding board to Wynton in those days. He played a lot of the material for me and we discussed the stuff he was unsure about. Some of the more florid stuff on those recordings came from other sources. Remember that he was only a kid then.
Wynton was never afraid to ask questions. He is an old school musician, always searching.

Your modesty is highly appreciated but since 1945 in Flatbush,Brooklyn your above description has many names one of which is teaching, especially making one sure after being unsure.

Many formally trained musicians who later entered the University of Art at Blakey had to learn 'things' not found in Music 001 to 401 or 501/601.

In parting, when I decide to take up the trumpet, guess who will be your next door neighbor practicing at reveille (sunrise) :)

Wilmer, you are a beautiful person and I love you like a brother.

Re: Wilmer and Wynton's second classical record

Thanks Wilmer, I was curious...I am going to be performing "Bright Seraphim" with a small orchestra in a month or so and I have been checking out different renditions for ornaments and style.... Wynton's early version here with Edita Gruberova is way different than the version that he recorded with Kathleen Battle. I like both, but I have to be honest I like the "simplicity" of the early recording. I will be borrowing from both. All the best, Neil

I was considering "The Karate Kid" where - only the 'Wise One' could teach him the secrets of the masters.

'Old' deleted and 'Wise' inserted to keep things copacetic :)
