Re: Yamaha Hosts Day of Trumpets IV

I wish I was back in town for that. Hard to beat free masterclasses and performances by great trumpet players. I imagine the hang with all of the regulars in town should be pretty cool as well.

Re: Yamaha Hosts Day of Trumpets IV- Allen

Allen Vizzutti is a fantastic clinician. He is also a prime example of Twenty-First Century trumpet playing.
His clinic was about all aspects of trumpet playing. It was not a showy "Check how great a player I am," it was his insights into what it takes to arrive at the place he is now. He talks of his warm-up, he talked of the reasons his signature horn is what it is. I didn't get a real chance to play the horn......darn
He played Napoli flawlessly to begin the clinic.
Dow 30 was there and even got to work on stage with Allen on his technique
Bravo Kim!

Re: Yamaha Hosts Day of Trumpets IV

I would have loved to go but I have classes at 2 and 4 and I would have missed my train home if I'd stayed for the concert..... this is when I regret the fact that every time I'm in NYC I have class all day.

Re: Yamaha Hosts Day of Trumpets IV

Sit astride a 1200 lb racehorse on enough steroids to make his eyeballs pop out of his head, that's easy, no problem. Get on a stage with Allen Vizzutti in front of an audience of people.....my eyeballs were popping out my head!!!! I'm still in the state of shock

But, Wilmer and I enjoyed a great day at the Yamaha Day of Trumpets.
While Allen Vizzutti's discussion dealt with everything from the physical aspects of playing, such as breath and tension in the embouchure, to mouthpieces, and daily routines. John Hagestrom dealt with the mental aspects of playing, auditioning and performing. Both clinics were most enlightening and what a great opportunity to be able to attend, Thanks Yamaha!

Re: Yamaha Hosts Day of Trumpets IV

I met Allen a long time ago. He subbed for Lew Soloff with Alvin Ailey ballet orchestra. Jimmy Owens, Ernie Royal, Lew and I were the trumpet section. I think we were doing "Night Creature." Allen was a baby
